Another Word for Nerd[Another Word for Nerd] After my DSL is back up, I should go over and show him how to secure things, or at least change the default admin password on the router. I’ve already changed his wireless setup to use a less-congested channel (as there’s tons of people in a 2-3 block radius using channel 6 already).

Some related posts from Technorati and Google.

[Bwianews.com] Broadband Wireless Internet Access / WiMAX: The Wall Street Journal reports that AT&T Digital Media, a unit of AT&T Broadband will be providing the "ground segment" of the Connexion service (ground-to-satellite / satellite-to-ground communications.) I'll speculate that AT&T Broadband was chosen because it does have considerable expertise in satellite communication (the source of programming to its various cable television systems) and that it's in a good position to source the premium content that Boeing will be relying on heavily for sufficient revenue for the Connexion service to be a success. It's encouraging that Boeing chose to outsource this portion of the system rather than trying to do it themselves as Boeing hasn't exhibited much success at such "soft" industries as providing content (an earlier satellite content / data venture called DigitalXpress wasn't much of a success).

[Startup.blogscorp.com] Startup Blog: New companies Archives: Dirk Gates (no, not Bill's brother), founder of Xircom, which he sold to Intel, is now betting on wireless LAN integration with Xirrus. Xirrus will sell "a WLAN array that integrates a Wi-Fi switch and up to 16 access points in a single box", according to EE Times.

[Blog.markwshead.com] Linksys WET11 Wireless Ethernet Bridge: My only fear initially was that the AudioTron might demand a more real-time connection to the server system to play music reliably, but it works without a hitch via the WET11 (and a WAP11, and a BEFSR41). I had also bought several WUSB11s for the upstairs computers, and was having a bit of a problem with one of them (I have since returned it and received a replacement unit that works flawlessly, just like the other two) and I used the spare WET11 on that computer for several weeks without a hitch.
